Mumbai: 18th Mumbai International Film Festival to Begin Today
The 18th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) 2024 will begin today in Mumbai. The 7-day event will kick-start with the India premiere of ‘Billy and Molly: An Otter Love Story’, directed by Charlie Hamilton-James.
This year’s MIFF will showcase 314 films from 59 countries in 61 languages. These include 8 world premieres, 5 international premieres, 18 Asia premieres and 21 India premieres. Besides Mumbai, parallel screenings will also be held in Delhi, Kolkata, Pune and Chennai, to broaden the festival’s reach to audiences across the country.
This year’s festival is introducing the first-ever Doc Film Bazaar, a dedicated marketplace for independent filmmakers to find buyers, sponsors and collaborators for their projects.
Noted filmmakers will take part in more than 25 Masterclasses, Panel Discussions and Open Forums on the curated topics. A workshop on Animation and VFX has also been organized for registered participants.
Established in 1990, the Mumbai International Film Festival is among the oldest South Asian film festivals. Held once in two years, MIFF is dedicated to documentaries, short films and animations.
MIFF provides a platform for documentary filmmakers from all over the world to meet, exchange ideas and explore the possibilities of co-productions and marketing of documentary, short and animation films.
Akashvani correspondent reports, National Geographic’s documentary, ‘Billy and Molly: An Otter Love Story’, will kick off the screenings at the most awaited 18th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) in Mumbai today.
The opening film will be screened simultaneously in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Pune. A record number of 1018 entry films were submitted for the competition sections.
118 films have been selected by the 3 Selection Committees of eminent film experts for the International and National competition sections.
A total 314 films from 59 countries across 61 languages are there in the MIFF programming this year.
There will be 8 world premieres, 5 international premieres, 18 Asia premieres and 21 India Premieres. MIFF 2024 will also be holding the first ever Documentary Film Bazaar comprising a Work In Progress Lab, Co-Production Markets and Viewing Room.
A special Animation and VFX Workshop by a Senior Warner Brother animator will also be organized.
The festival will also witness an array of curated events like masterclasses, open forums, fireside chats and panel discussions with industry luminaries.
