Mr Stalin urged the Government to take immediate diplomatic steps with the Sri Lankan Government to secure the release of the detained fishermen.

The fishermen were arrested in two separate incidents and four fishing boats were seized by the Sri Lankan Navy on the 14th of this month.

The Chief Minister has said that the repeated instances of arrest and seizure of boats have led to fear in the hearts of the fishermen resulting in loss of income for the fishermen and the lives of their family was at stake.

The fishermen’s Associations have abstained from fishing, demanding the release of the fishermen and urging both the State and the Central Governments to take necessary action on the issue.
