India to become third largest economy in the world by 2027-2028: Ashwini Vaishnav

Union Minister and BJP leader Ashwini Vaishnaw said that India has made great strides in every sector in the past nine years and the country has undergone a big transformation. Briefing the media in New Delhi on Friday, Mr. Vaishnaw highlighted the achievements made in the Railways and Telecom sector mentioning that India will become the third-largest economy in the world by 2027-2028.

Terming 2004 to 2014, a lost decade for India, he said, India remained the 10th largest economy in all those years, but under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has now become the world’s 5th largest economy.

Pointing towards the achievements made in the Railways and Telecom sector, the Minister said, Railways has witnessed transformative changes in the past nine years. He said, in 2014, four kilometers of railways tracks were laid in a day, now the figure has reached 14 kilometres per day.

He said, a total of 21 thousand kilometers of Railway lines were electrified before 2014, whereas in the last nine years only, this number stands at a whopping 37 thousand kilometers. He said, India was always dependent on the world for telecom technology, but due to Made in India initiative, indigenous technology is now being exported to the most prosperous countries of the world.
