TGFDC Chairman, Sri. Podem Veeriah along with VC & MD, Smt. Sunita Bhagwat IFS inaugurated Free Library and Story Board at Botanical Garden, Hyderabad.
The Chairman and Vice Chairman & Managing Director of the Telangana Forest Development Corporation (TGFDC) today inaugurated two meaningful public-oriented initiatives aimed at promoting knowledge sharing, awareness and appreciation of the forest sector.
As part of its continued commitment towards social outreach and learning, TGFDC inaugurated a Free Library, designed to encourage reading habits among citizens of all age groups, with special focus on students.
The Free Library follows a simple and inclusive concept any visitor can select a book from the available collection, read it freely and return it to the shelf for others to use. Citizens are also encouraged to donate books after completing their reading, thereby continuously enriching the collection and fostering a culture of sharing knowledge.
At present, the initial collection of books has been generously donated by the Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Smt. Sunita Bhagwat, IFS, reflecting the Corporation’s emphasis on education, learning and community participation.
Inauguration of StoryBoard – “The Lesser Known Khaki”
The Chairman and VC & MD also inaugurated an evocative story board titled “The Lesser Known Khaki”, an artistic and narrative depiction highlighting the critical yet often unseen role of forest officers in the protection, conservation, and sustainable development of forests.
The storyboard is an original artwork conceptualised and developed by Smt. Piyusha Jagtap, IFS (2014 batch, Maharashtra cadre). Through compelling visuals and storytelling, the installation presents a self-explanatory account of the challenges, responsibilities, and dedication associated with forest service, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the forest department’s role beyond enforcement.
Commitment to Awareness and Public Engagement
Speaking on the occasion, the leadership of TGFDC reiterated the Corporation’s commitment to creating spaces that promote learning, awareness and appreciation of forests and forest services. Such initiatives, they noted, help bridge the gap between citizens and conservation efforts, while inspiring young minds to engage with environmental stewardship.
These facilities are expected to become important knowledge and awareness hubs for visitors, students and the general public.
