Chief Minister Sri A. Revanth Reddy announced that a specialized mechanism would be introduced in the state to curb food adulteration. He stated that a dedicated system to combat food adulteration would be established, modeled after the recently introduced ‘Eagle’ and ‘Hydra’ initiatives currently operational in the state. To this end, he noted that the government would study the anti-adulteration laws currently in force across the country and implement robust measures.
To mark the completion of one year since the launch of the ‘Sanna Biyyam’ (Fine Rice) scheme—under which fine quality rice is distributed to 3.39 crore people across the state—the Department of Civil Supplies organized a luncheon featuring fine rice for public representatives in the Central Hall of the Legislative Assembly.
Chief Minister Sri A. Revanth Reddy was joined by Council Chairman Sri Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Speaker Sri Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sri Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies Sri Uttam Kumar Reddy, along with other ministers, MLCs, and MLAs, who participated in the event and partook in the meal.
Speaking to the media on this occasion, the Chief Minister stated: “Although coarse rice was being supplied through ration shops, the lack of consumers willing to eat it led to the proliferation of a ‘mafia’ involved in converting this rice into fine rice varieties.
Moreover, the distribution of coarse rice merely incurred costs for the government without providing any tangible benefit to the poor. After considering all aspects of the issue, we launched this scheme with the objective of providing fine rice—a variety that the poor are willing to consume.
To this end, we announced a bonus of ₹500 per quintal and encouraged farmers to cultivate fine paddy varieties. We have issued ration cards to every eligible applicant. In a similar vein, our goal is to provide quality education and nutritious food to students across the state. As part of this initiative, we will raise awareness among farmers regarding crop diversification methods and encourage them to cultivate commercial and alternative crops.”
