The Mines and Minerals (Amendment) Act, 2026 builds a cycle of economic growth — certainty creates confidence, confidence brings investment, investment drives production, and production builds strength by reducing import dependence and securing India’s mineral and energy future.

This growth fuels jobs, infrastructure, and industry — powering the journey towards a self-reliant India.

SAIL Welcomes Mines And Minerals Amendment Act 2026

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has welcomed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2026, notified by the Central Government on August 17. The Amendment aims at establishing a predictable fiscal regime and long-term policy certainty in the mineral sector.

It provides greater clarity and uniformity in mineral taxation and levies and addresses pending retrospective levies, providing greater certainty and confidence to the mining industry. Ministry of Steel said that the reform is expected to encourage higher investment and production, reduce import dependence, strengthen mineral and energy security, and enhance the competitiveness of mineral-based industries.
