Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D.K. Shivakumar is set to assume office as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka, succeeding Siddaramaiah. Following Siddaramaiah’s resignation, the election of Shivakumar as the new leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has become a mere formality. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on June 3.
Karnataka’s new Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar, is scheduled to take the oath of office on June 3 at 4:10 PM. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Saturday, Shivakumar confirmed that the swearing-in ceremony would indeed be held on June 3. The Congress Legislature Party meeting is currently underway, during which D.K. Shivakumar is expected to be formally elected as the leader of the Congress MLAs.
Sources indicated that this would be a standard swearing-in ceremony for the new D.K. Shivakumar cabinet. Intense speculation regarding the date of the swearing-in ceremony has been rife ever since outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah tendered his resignation on Thursday.
Sources revealed that Shivakumar—who is deeply devout—finalized June 3 as the date for the swearing-in ceremony after consulting with his astrologer, Belluru Dwarakanath. The sources further stated that the astrologer identified 4:10 PM on the evening of June 3 as the “auspicious time” (Shubha Muhurtham) for the oath-taking ceremony. According to Congress sources, the attendance of Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi at the swearing-in ceremony was another reason for selecting June 3rd as the date for the event.
Congress sources indicated that, alongside D.K. Shivakumar, two Deputy Chief Ministers are also likely to take the oath of office. One of the Deputy Chief Ministers is expected to belong to the Dalit community, while the other is likely to be from a minority community.
