GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad, organized a one-day seminar on “Indian Air Force Placement: Enhancement Vehicle – Career Guidance” on Tuesday. The programme was conducted by the Department of Aerospace Engineering in collaboration with the Indian Air Force (IAF) to create awareness among students about career opportunities in the armed forces.
Master Warrant Officer Deepak Bhardwaj of the Indian Air Force attended the programme as the chief guest along with a team of IAF personnel. A mobile exhibition showcasing the Indian Air Force’s capabilities was also displayed, and the simulation facility arranged for the benefit of students.
Addressing the gathering, Deepak Bhardwaj provided comprehensive information on career opportunities in the Indian Air Force, explaining various entry routes, including UPSC, AFCAT, and NCC Special Entry, as well as Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission. He outlined career progression from entry-level officer to the position of Chief of the Air Staff and elaborated on the Flying, Technical, and Ground Duty branches, along with the eligibility criteria and required qualifications for each stream.
He also explained the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) process, covering written examinations, personality assessment, psychological tests, group tasks, interviews, medical examinations, and merit-based selection. Emphasizing the scientific and transparent selection procedure, he encouraged students to prepare themselves with confidence and commitment.
Highlighting the benefits of an Air Force career, he spoke about attractive pay and allowances, furnished accommodation, comprehensive medical care, education opportunities, leave benefits, insurance coverage, adventure activities, and professional growth. He motivated students to consider serving the nation by joining the Indian Air Force either as officers or as Agniveers, and advised them to visit the official Indian Air Force careers portal for detailed information.
Deepak Bhardwaj also presented an overview of the evolution of the Indian Air Force, its vital role in national security, military logistics, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, casualty evacuation, and its contributions during the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars. He introduced students to the IAF’s modern fleet of fighter aircraft, transport aircraft, helicopters, and airborne surveillance systems.
Earlier, Prof.Venu Kumar Nathi, Head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, welcomed, and felicitated the guests, while Dr. Md. Akhtar Khan, Convener of the programme, highlighted the importance of career awareness initiatives for engineering students. Faculty members and students actively participated in the interactive session and clarified their queries with the IAF officers.
