GITAM Deemed to be University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr.Rathin Roy as Professor of Economics and Dean of the GITAM School of Humanities and Social Sciences (GSHS). A Distinguished Fellow at the Kautilya School of Public Policy (KSPP), Dr. Roy is a globally respected economist and public policy scholar with an outstanding record of leadership across academia, public finance, and international development.
Dr. Roy holds a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Economics from the University of Cambridge. He currently serves as a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Overseas Development Institute (ODI Global), London. His illustrious career includes eminent roles such as Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) and Director at the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG), UNDP, Brazil.
In addition, Dr. Roy has held several senior advisory positions with the United Nations Development Programme and has contributed extensively to national policy as Economic Advisor to the Thirteenth Finance Commission of India and as a Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India.
Dr. Roy’s appointment marks a significant milestone for GITAM School of Humanities and Social Sciences. His intellectual leadership, rich policy experience, and global perspective are expected to significantly strengthen academic excellence, research innovation, and institutional growth.
