Chief Minister Shri Revanth Reddy has requested Union Food and Civil Supplies Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi to take the 18 lakh metric tonnes of extra grain procured in Telangana for the monsoon crop (2025-26 season). The Chief Minister met the Union Minister along with State Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy at the Union Minister’s residence.
He said that 53.73 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) had been sanctioned for the monsoon crop, but due to the heavy crop production, the Telangana government procured an additional 18 LMT, so the FCI should collect that amount with a 10 percent discount.
He asked for permission to mill an additional 10 lakh metric tonnes of boiled rice with 5 percent sugar for the 2024-25 Yasangi crop. He also requested that the deadline for customs milling rice for the 2024-25 monsoon crop be extended by another 2 months, as the deadline was set for February 28 this year.
He also requested for the immediate release of Rs. 1,468.94 crore due to Telangana for rice supplied to the Food Corporation of India during the 2014-15 monsoon season. He reminded that the state government itself had borne the amount related to the additional levy collection. They informed that they had taken a loan to procure paddy that day, and the interest on it had increased to over Rs. 2,000 crore.
They appealed to the Union Minister to immediately release the additional rice supplied from May 2021 to March 2022 under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana and the arrears of Rs. 343.27 crore related to rice supplied in April 2022.
MPs Dr Mallu Ravi and Suresh Shetkar along with officials participated in the meeting.
