Successful commissioning of Fast Patrol Vessels built by Goa Shipyard for Indian Coast Guard

Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL), a premier Indian DPSU Shipyard, is constructing eight Fast Patrol Vessels for Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The contract was concluded on 28 Mar 22 for Rs 473 Cr. These vessels are being designed and constructed with over 60% Indigenously Content.With the concurrent launch of the first two vessels of this class, ICG and GSL continue its long standing partnership and triumphant march towards self-reliance, turning ‘AtmanirbharBharat‘a reality.

The ships werelaunched and named in the ceremonious way by Smt PriyaParameshin presence of Director General Paramesh Sivamani, PTM, TM, DGICGand Coast Guard Veterans to the chants of ‘Atharva Veda’. In the glittering ceremony, the ships were named as “Adamya” and “Akshar”. Launching ceremony was also attended by Shri Brajesh Kumar UpadhyayCMD, GSL, IG HK Sharma, TM, DDG (M&M) and Senior Officials from Indian Navy, ICG, Shipyard and the classification societies.

These ships have been designed and constructed in-house by GSL to meet the specific requirements of the  ICG under stringent dual class certification of ABS and IRS. The ship has a length of 52m, breadth of 8m, max speed of 27 knots, CPP-based propulsion system and displacement of 320 tons.The keel for both these vessels were laid by Shri Giridhar Aramane, IAS, Defence Secretary on25 Aug 2023.

The Shipyard has since made exceptional strides in achieving the milestone of launching. For the first time in the history of Goa Shipyard two vessels were launched simultaneously utilizing the state-of-art Ship Lift System. These advanced Fast Patrol vessels will help ICG in protecting offshore assets and island territories. Their primary role will be protection, monitoring, control and surveillance.

This Project contributes to the prosperity of the Nation by developing the local ecosystem and supporting workforce/ entrepreneurs / MSMEs. The project has generated substantial employment for local industry and MSMEs engaged in production activities at various factories and within GSL.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Chief Guest appreciated the efforts put in by Shipyard and various industries in ensuring that all ship building requirements of Coast Guard are fulfilled indigenously. Further, congratulating employees of GSL on achieving this critical milestone overcoming all odds, he exhorted all present to ensure that the march towards ‘Atmanirbharta’ in Defence Production is pursued in the right earnest.

The launch of “ADAMYA” and “AKSHAR”is an exemplary testimony of our Nation’s ship building capability showcasing synergy and resolve of GSLand Indian Coast Guard to make indigenously designed state-of-art vessels for National security requirements.
