TGFDC Celebrates World Bicycle Day and Forest Fire Awareness Programme at Botanical Garden Hyderabad

Hyderabad: As part of the ongoing PRAJA PALANA – PRAGATHI PRANALIKA celebrations, Telangana Forest Development Corporation (TGFDC), under its eco-tourism brand Deccan Woods & Trails, organized a series of awareness and conservation-oriented programmes on 03 June 2026 at Botanical Garden (Kothaguda Reserve Forest) to promote sustainable living, environmental protection and public well-being.

The day began with the celebration of World Bicycle Day at Pala Pitta Cycling Park, where more than 30 cyclists, volunteers, nature lovers and fitness enthusiasts participated in a cycling event from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM. The rally was flagged off by Dr. G. Skylab, General Manager, TGFDC, who highlighted cycling as a healthy, affordable and environmentally sustainable mode of transport that helps reduce carbon emissions and promotes public health.

Addressing the participants, Dr. G. Skylab emphasized that cycling is not merely a mode of transportation but a powerful tool for environmental sustainability and healthy living. He encouraged citizens, particularly the younger generation, to adopt cycling as a daily habit and become ambassadors of sustainable mobility. Following the cycling event, participants were provided breakfast, after which an Awareness Session on Healthy Living was conducted, focusing on the importance of physical activity, balanced nutrition, mental well-being and healthy lifestyle choices.

The day’s programme continued with a Forest Fire Awareness Programme at the Conservation Zone (Vriksha Parichaya Kshetram) of Kothaguda Reserve Forest. Fire Officers from the Telangana Fire Department, Madhapur Fire Station, conducted practical demonstrations on fire safety measures, emergency response procedures and the proper use of fire extinguishers. Plantation Managers and Naturalists also shared their field experiences on forest fire prevention, early detection, mitigation measures and coordinated response mechanisms, significantly enhancing awareness and preparedness among frontline staff.
