Hyderabad: NSS Day Celebrated at GITAM
The NSS Day Celebration took place on September 24, 2024, at GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad, organized by the university’s National Service Scheme (NSS) Units. The event was inaugurated by R.C.M. Raju, a renowned dubbing artist and recipient of five Nandi awards, who lit the ceremonial lamp, followed by a heartfelt rendition of the NSS Geetham by the volunteers.
In his address, R.C.M. Raju shared his experiences from his college days in the NSS and NCC, emphasizing the importance of community service in shaping responsible citizens. He entertained the audience by recalling popular dialogues from his movies, such as Kalki and Thangalaan, which received much applause. He also urged the volunteers to actively participate in the Swachh Bharat Mission with a scientific approach and commitment, advising them to reduce plastic usage by opting for reusable items. He summed up his message with the phrase, “Cleanliness is the symbol of culture.”
NSS Coordinator Dr. P.V. Nagendra Kumar delivered the welcoming address and officially opened the celebrations. Prof. D.S. Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor, encouraged the volunteers to conduct activities that build character, discipline, leadership, and selflessness, while serving as role models for other students. DVVSR Varma, Resident Director, praised the NSS team for their readiness to serve the community at any time.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by NSS Volunteer Bhargavi, expressing gratitude to all participants and contributors. The celebration was a success, fostering a spirit of service and personal growth among the NSS volunteers at GITAM, Hyderabad. The event ended up with amazing cultural performances.
