Indian Coast Guard continues disaster relief operations in Wayanad, Kerala

New Delhi, 01 Aug 2024:   The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) District Headquarters (Kerala & Mahe) and ICG Station Beypore are actively engaged in ongoing disaster relief operations in Wayanad, in coordination with State administration, Indian Army, Indian Navy, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire and Rescue Services, Local Police, and various volunteer groups.

The ICG team, consisting of 35 personnel led by Deputy Commandant Vivek Kumar Dixit, has been conducting rescue operations in Chooralmala and nearby villages since 30 Jul 2024. The team has assisted numerous civilians stranded in the disaster zones, facilitating their relocation to safe locations and relief camps. They are also actively involved in clearing debris in search of survivors and missing persons and providing on-site first aid to injured persons.

To augment the ground efforts, an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) has been deployed from Coast Guard Air Enclave, Calicut, and is kept standby for   augmenting the air efforts in rescue as well as air-dropping of relief materials. Additionally, ICG Ship Abhinav is being dispatched from Kochi to Beypore, carrying life-saving equipment, relief materials, medicines, and freshwater. These supplies will be distributed to various disaster relief camps in Wayanad.

Despite challenging weather conditions and difficult terrain, the ICG is committed to supporting the local populace and the District Administration. The coordinated efforts of the Coast Guard and other forces underscore their dedication in providing timely and effective assistance in this critical time.
