Kerala: Isolated Rains Continue to Lash Parts of the state

Isolated rains continue to lash parts of Kerala since last evening, leaving many low lying areas inundated. An overcast sky prevails in several areas, and the Weather Office has indicated that rains are likely to continue till tomorrow.

The IMD, in its latest weather report, has issued red alert in the districts of Ernakulam and Thrissur. It has issued orange alert in eight districts, including the hilly districts of Wayanad, Idukki and Pathanamthitta.

The Weather Department said, under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over South Kerala and its neighbourhood, a low pressure area has formed over South East Arabian Sea off Kerala coast.

Strong westerly or south westerly winds at lower levels is likely to continue over Kerala and Lakshadweep region till tomorrow, and under its influence, extremely heavy rainfall activity is likely to occur.

Met Dept Issues Red Alert In Ernakulam,Thrissur Districts As Heavy Rains Continue 

In Kerala, as the heavy rain continues, the Met Dept has issued a red alert in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts today. An orange alert is also issued for 8 districts. As strong winds and bad weather are expected, fishermen are warned from venturing into the sea on the Kerala coast.

Authorities had urged people to be alert as heavy rainfall is expected in a short period of time which may lead to flash floods, landslides and water-logging. Due to the possibility of strong winds and heavy rain, people are urged to move to safer places and to contact the control room. Presently 223 people have been relocated to 8 camps across the state.
