PCCF (HoFF) Dr. C. Suvarna an IFS Officer Tireless in Forest Restoration

Serving with distinction as the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (HoFF) for the Telangana Forest Department, Dr. Chandrappagari Suvarna delivered exemplary service in her own unique style, earning recognition from all quarters within a short span of time.

From the beginning she assumed charge as the second woman PCCF (HoFF) until her final day in office, Dr. Suvarna remained deeply committed to her duties and played a pivotal role in the advancement of the Telangana Forest Department. She is credited with transforming the state forest department—aptly described by the phrase “Mahilalu-Maharanulu” (Women as Queens)—by appointing fellow female officers to head various divisions.

Acting in accordance with the directives, suggestions, and advice of State Chief Minister Sri Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, Minister for Environment and Forests Smt. Konda Surekha, and Government Secretary Ahmed Nadeem, significant strides have been made to surpass government targets. The PCCF’s efforts are exemplary in coordinating with Public Reprasentives and higher officials, ensuring 100% implementation of government directives, and successfully achieving the set objectives.

Beyond undertaking large-scale forest restoration initiatives using CAMPA funds, the PCCF waged an uncompromising battle to reclaim encroached reserve forest lands. She achieved a significant milestone by successfully reclaiming 102 acres of the Gurranguda Reserve Forest after pursuing the matter all the way to the Supreme Court. The PCCF remains optimistic about the potential recovery of another 600 acres of forest land, as well as 280 acres in Sardarnagar, Khammam district. Her efforts in securing ₹1,270 crore in JICA funding from Japan for the state are also highly commendable.

PCCF Dr. Suvarna began her career in the Indian Forest Service (IFS) on September 15, 1991, and has rendered exemplary service over a span of 35 years. She excelled during her approximately 16 years of service within the Forest Department; her work in forest restoration, conservation, and the reclamation of encroached forest lands stands as a testament to her success.

Additionally, acting on Government directives, she served for nine and a half years in key roles—including Special Commissioner for Rural Development (Natural Resources), Commissioner of Fisheries, and Chief Executive of the National Fisheries Development Board—earning distinct recognition at both the state and national levels.
