Chief Minister Sri Revanth Reddy has directed officials to carry out repairs on the three barrages within the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and bring them back into operation. He instructed that these works be expedited as quickly as possible, in accordance with the recommendations of the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA).
The Chief Minister conducted a review meeting regarding the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project with Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and other senior officials. On this occasion, he directed officials to formulate a specific action plan for the project’s repairs and to ensure its continuous monitoring.
The CM advised that all agencies involved in the repair works be alerted and instructed to accelerate the pace of their activities. He explicitly stated that the tests and sample collection currently being conducted under the aegis of the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) must be completed before the onset of the monsoon season.
The CM suggested the formation of a dedicated team comprising representatives from the Irrigation Department, CWPRS, the barrage construction agencies, and design consultants. He further emphasized that members of the Central Water Commission (CWC) should be involved in every stage of the work.
During the meeting, officials explained to the CM that there is a need to conduct a comprehensive study of the entire 1.6-kilometer-long barrage at Medigadda—not merely the specific pillar that had subsided. The Chief Minister directed that a special action plan be prepared for the excavation of 500 borewells near Medigadda. He ordered that the necessary machinery be procured and the work completed as expeditiously as possible.
He instructed that designs pertaining to repair works be prepared. He also directed that a comprehensive schedule be drawn up for all works to be executed through December.
He made it clear that no delays in the execution of works would be tolerated and assured that there would be no issues regarding the allocation of funds. The Chief Minister suggested establishing a base camp at Medigadda. He stated that, once the works commence, he would personally visit the site to inspect them.
Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, along with senior officials from the Irrigation Department, participated in this meeting.
