Historic victory: Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu
Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu described the allotment of the Manuguru PKOC-II Dip Side block to in the Central Coal Ministry’s online auction as a historic victory.
He stated that the continuous efforts made over the past 30 months to protect and expand Singareni, while ensuring the state’s energy security, are now yielding results and giving a new lease of life to the organization. He emphasized that this success was possible due to the government’s determination to secure new coal blocks to safeguard Singareni, which is a valuable asset of the people of Telangana.
He further noted that when there was uncertainty over whether the Naini coal block in Odisha would even commence operations, he personally visited the state, engaged with public representatives and local communities, and secured approvals. As a result, coal production has now begun at Naini, laying a strong foundation for the company for the next 36 years.
Similarly, the Tadicherla-II coal block, for which mining permissions were granted during the UPA era in 2013 but neglected by the previous BRS government, was revived after coming to power through consultations with the Centre. Mining leases were secured in the second week of last month, enabling extraction of 336 million tonnes of coal over 45 years.
He stated that Singareni participated in the Central Coal Ministry’s auction held today (Monday) and successfully secured the Manuguru PKOC-II Dip Side block. He alleged that previous governments had prevented Singareni from participating in auctions and attempted to hand over valuable coal blocks in the state to favored entities. He asserted that it was only because the present government encouraged participation in auctions that Singareni could secure a block after nearly 12 years. He termed this as a people’s victory under the Indiramma People’s Government.
He described this as the second major achievement for Singareni within a month. The Manuguru PKOC-II Dip Side mine is expected to yield 120 million tonnes of high-quality G-8 grade coal, ensuring a steady supply of 6 million tonnes annually for 20 years to meet the state’s power requirements.
The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted that this block would play a crucial role in safeguarding the existence of the Manuguru area, one of the most important regions in Singareni. The project will provide long-term employment security to around 2,000 workers and significantly contribute to the economic development of the region. The availability of high-quality coal from this block will strengthen Telangana’s energy security for the next two decades.
He criticized the previous government for failing to protect Singareni’s interests, which led to key coal blocks such as Koyagudem-III and Sathupalli-III being allocated to private entities. In contrast, the present government is focused on prioritizing Singareni’s interests and utilizing every opportunity to strengthen the organization.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister , the government aims to further strengthen Singareni, secure new coal reserves, enhance job security, and ensure long-term coal supply for Telangana’s energy needs.
He congratulated the Singareni management, trade union leaders, and workers on securing the Manuguru PKOC-II Dip Side block. He also stated that efforts will be made to bring back Koyagudem-III and Sathupalli-III blocks to Singareni in the future. Additionally, the company is preparing an action plan to expand beyond Telangana by acquiring coal mines in other states and exploring critical minerals.
