Senior IAS officer Anurag Jain on Monday took charge as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog. NITI Aayog welcomed Jain as its new CEO in a post on platform X.

A 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, Jain brings nearly four decades of experience in public administration, governance and policymaking.

Jain has previously served as the Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh. At the Centre, he served as Secretary in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and as Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

His experience spans infrastructure development, industrial policy, administration and economic development, and is expected to contribute to NITI Aayog’s policy formulation and implementation work.

As CEO, Jain will play a key role in supporting the government’s development priorities and strengthening coordination between the Centre and states.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet had earlier approved his appointment as NITI Aayog CEO, according to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

His tenure will be for two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier, under the same terms and conditions applicable to his predecessor. Earlier this year, economist Ashok Kumar Lahiri was appointed Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog, replacing Suman K Bery.
