National Civil Services Day being observed across the country: President Murmu, PM Modi extend greetings

Civil Services Day, observed annually on April 21, is a tribute to the backbone of India’s governance and administration system, civil servants. The Civil Services day commemorates the historic address delivered by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in 1947, where he described civil services as the “Steel Frame of India.”

In 2026, the occasion gained added relevance as India advances toward the vision of Viksit Bharat, with a strong emphasis on digital governance, citizen-centric administration, and capacity building under Mission Karmayogi. It is not only a moment of recognition but also a platform to reflect, reform, and reimagine public service delivery in a rapidly evolving administrative landscape.

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended greetings to civil servants across the country on Civil Services Day.

President Murmu praised civil servants for their role in strengthening governance and public institutions. In a post on X, she said, “Warm greetings to all civil servants on Civil Services Day. Your commitment continues to strengthen responsive governance and reinforce public institutions. From the formulation of innovative, future-oriented and citizen-centric policies, to their effective implementation on the ground, your work significantly impacts the quality of life of millions.”

She further noted, “As Bharat advances with renewed aspirations, your integrity and empathy will be instrumental in bridging gaps, fostering inclusivity, and strengthening trust between the State and its citizens. May you continue to uphold the highest standards of public service and contribute meaningfully to the building of a more equitable and progressive nation.”

PM Modi also extended greetings to civil servants on the occasion. In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Greetings to all civil servants on Civil Services Day. This is an occasion to further strengthen the resolve to work towards good governance and nation building.”

Highlighting their role in governance, he added, “From the grassroots to policy-making, the efforts of civil servants touch countless lives and contribute to India’s progress. May our civil servants continue to serve with excellence, compassion and innovation, upholding the highest standards of duty.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the dedication and integrity of civil servants play a vital role in nation-building. Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India Nitin Gadkari commended tireless service and contribution of civil servants to governance and public welfare.
