MoEF&CC organizes eco-friendly Holi workshops under environmental education program

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has rolled out an eco-friendly Holi campaign across Eco-Clubs under its Environment Education Programme (EEP), promoting safe and sustainable celebrations in line with Mission LiFE.

As part of the initiative, hands-on workshops are being conducted to train students in preparing natural Holi colours using edible and leafy vegetables.

During the sessions, students are learning to make green colour from fresh leafy vegetables, red from beetroot, yellow from turmeric (haldi) and orange from Gogupuvvu (Palash). According to the Ministry, these colours are free from chemicals and harmful substances, ensuring celebrations that are safe for both people and the environment.

The campaign is witnessing strong participation across Eco-Clubs, with students engaging in practical learning activities and adopting sustainable festive practices. By replacing synthetic colours with biodegradable alternatives, young participants are being encouraged to promote environmentally responsible celebrations within their communities.

The initiative, the Ministry said, underscores how simple, nature-based solutions can make festivals vibrant and eco-friendly while reinforcing the objectives of Mission LiFE.
