Minister Konda Surekha participates in special Vanamahotsavam: Calls on everyone to plant saplings to protect environment

Warangal, August 25: State Minister for Forests, Environment, and Endowments, Konda Surekha, called upon everyone to participate in environmental protection by planting trees and ensuring the survival of every sapling planted. She emphasized that every individual should take responsibility for planting, nurturing, and protecting trees in their own homes.

Minister Konda Surekha attended the ‘Vana Mahotsav’ (Forest Festival) program held on Tuesday at the Government Junior College premises in Rangasaipet, Warangal, as the chief guest. Presided over by District Collector Dr. Satya Sarada, the event saw the Minister planting saplings on the college campus.

District Collector Dr. Satya Sarada, District Forest Officer Nikhita, and Library Chairman Meesala Prakash also participated in the event and planted saplings. Subsequently, the Minister inaugurated a new open gym on the college premises and visited stalls set up by various government departments.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister noted that the Vana Mahotsav program had been slightly delayed due to the impact of El Niño. She stated that a target had been set to plant 10 percent of the total saplings in a single day.

She urged for extensive tree planting in every household, as well as in government and private schools and government offices. The Minister also pointed out that the lack of adequate green cover is a major reason for the failure of rains to arrive on time. It was stated that trees contribute significantly to human survival and are essential for maintaining environmental balance. Everyone was urged to move forward with a firm resolve to plant, nurture, and protect saplings.

The Minister encouraged the practice of planting saplings on occasions such as birthdays, weddings, and other auspicious events, emphasizing the need to take responsibility for their protection alongside planting them.

A call was made to protect trees and prevent them from being cut down

District Collector Dr. Satya Sarada stated that a target had been set to plant 25 lakh saplings in Warangal district, with approximately 13 lakh saplings planted so far. She revealed that measures are being taken in coordination with all departments to achieve the remaining target.

Environmental Balance Through Green Cover

Bhadradri Kothagudem District CCF Bhima Naik remarked that abundant green cover mitigates the impact of climate change, ensures timely rainfall, and promotes bountiful crop yields. He urged everyone to take responsibility for planting saplings and nurturing them into full-grown trees.

Dance performances by students from various schools captivated the audience during the ‘Vana Mahotsav’ program.

Additional Collector Sandhya Rani, RDO Suma, ZP CEO Ram Reddy, Tahsildar Iqbal, officials from various departments, women, and students participated in the event.
