Punjab Kings began IPL 2026 with a briefly nervy, but largely comfortable three-wicket win over Gujarat Titans at home on Tuesday (March 31). Vijaykumar Vyshak (3 for 34) was the pick of the bowlers, restricting the Titans to a sub-par 162/6 when they seemed set for a 200+ score.

Cooper Connolly then shone on debut, part dominating and part anchoring the chase with his 44-ball 72 not out on IPL debut. PBKS were in a soup at one point, losing four wickets for eight runs in the middle-overs phase, but the Australian regained control at death to get the hosts over the line with five balls to spare.

Brief scores: Gujarat Titans 162/6 in 20 overs (Shubman Gill 39 off 27, Glenn Phillips 25 off 17; Vijaykumar Vyshak 3-34, Yuzvendra Chahal 2-28) lost to Punjab Kings 165/7 in 19.1 overs (Cooper Connolly 72* off 44, Prabhsimran Singh 37 off 24; Prasidh Krishna 3-29) by 3 wickets
