IMD Forecast: Thunderstorms, Lightning, And Gusty Winds Across Several States Today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the North Eastern States, Andhra Pradesh, Marathwada and Telangana for today. Similar conditions are expected over Madhya Maharashtra, Karnataka and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal till tomorrow. The Weather Agency has also predicted hot and humid weather conditions over Kerala, Mahe, Konkan and Goa for the day.

The ongoing spell of rain and thunderstorms across Rajasthan is set to continue till the end of March, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures and delaying the onset of intense summer heat in parts of the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has attributed the changing weather to back-to-back western disturbances likely to impact the region between March 26 and March 31. A brief pause is expected on March 25, when weather conditions are likely to remain largely clear.

Light rainfall was recorded in several districts over the past 24 hours, including Jaipur, Hanumangarh and Jhunjhunu, while Kota, Baran and Ajmer witnessed afternoon showers. Parts of Kota reported heavy rainfall. In eastern districts such as Jhalawar, Baran, Sawai Madhopur and Bundi, overcast skies and intermittent drizzle persisted through the day.

Jaipur recorded 8 mm of rainfall, with Shahpura and Jalsu receiving 5 mm and 1 mm, respectively. The cloud cover led to a drop of around 3°C in daytime temperatures, with the city logging a maximum of 28.5°C and a minimum of 19.2°C.

Western Rajasthan, including Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner and Ganganagar, also saw a dip in temperatures following rainfall, offering relief from rising heat. Barmer recorded the highest maximum temperature at 35.8°C, while most other districts remained close to or below normal levels.

According to Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur, clear weather is likely to prevail till Wednesday before fresh activity sets in. Light rain is expected in eastern and northern Rajasthan thereafter, with a stronger western disturbance between March 29 and 31 likely to bring thunderstorms and more widespread rainfall.

The IMD has also forecast dusty winds at speeds of 30–40 kmph in parts of Jaipur, Ajmer, Bharatpur, Kota, Bikaner and Jodhpur on March 26 and 27, along with isolated thunderstorm activity. With intermittent showers and cloud cover continuing, Rajasthan is likely to see fluctuating weather conditions and relatively cooler temperatures through the remaining days of March.
