The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at GITAM School of Science, Hyderabad, inaugurated a two-day hands-on workshop titled “Exploring Modern AI: From Natural Language Processing to Cognitive Intelligence” on 24 March 2026.
Prof.SibaUdgata from the University of Hyderabad, the Chief Guest, highlighted the remarkable capabilities and efficiency of the human brain, emphasizing that human intelligence continues to surpass artificial intelligence in many aspects. He encouraged participants to remain confident, continuously learn, and use AI responsibly as a tool for societal benefit.
Dr. K. Sampathkumar from KPMG Global Delivery Centre, Hyderabad, the Guest of Honour, spoke on the rapid evolution of AI, tracing its breakthroughs from foundational research such as the “Attention Is All You Need” paper to modern applications like ChatGPT. He underscored the transformative impact of AI across industries, the growing role of developers in leveraging AI, and the importance of staying prepared for emerging challenges, including cybersecurity.
The workshop features expert sessions by eminent academicians including Dr. P. Krishnamurthy (IIIT Hyderabad), Prof. Ramesh Kumar Mishra (University of Hyderabad), and Prof.Animesh Mukherjee (IIT Kharagpur). It aims to provide participants with insights into recent advancements in AI, NLP, and cognitive science, along with hands-on exposure to technologies such as large language models, agentic AI, and multilingual systems.
The programme is coordinated by Dr. D. Mallikarjuna Reddy, with support from Dr. K. Krishna and Dr.BheemashankerKodge, under the guidance of Dr.Jadav Ganesh, Head of the Department. Faculty members, students, and industry professionals are actively participating in the workshop.Dr.Motahar Reza, Principal, School of Science, welcomed the gathering, while student coordinators Sahasra, Deepa, Sushmika, and Sneha efficiently anchored the event.
HAVANA-2026: GITAM Hosts Grand National-Level Tech Fest
The GITAM School of Core Engineering inaugurated its two-day national-level tech fest, HAVANA-2026, on 24 March 2026, bringing together students and innovators from across the country. Organized by G-Electra (Smart Systems Club) of the Electrical, Electronics, and Communication Engineering (EECE) Department, the event celebrated innovation, creativity, and emerging technologies.
Udaya Kumar Dintyala, Chairman of Cognitivebotics, attended as the Guest of Honour and encouraged students to reimagine problems with clarity and purpose, emphasizing the transformative power of technology in shaping industries such as education and healthcare. SravanthGajula, Co-Founder of AdOnMo, also graced the occasion and shared key entrepreneurial insights, urging students to step out of their comfort zones, focus on problem-solving, and build meaningful professional networks.
The inaugural session was held in the presence of Prof. Ramesh Vaddi, Director, School of Core Engineering. Prof.MadhaviTatineni, Head of the EECE Department, delivered the welcome address. A. Venu Gopal presented a report on G-Electra’s activities, while K. Sravya proposed the vote of thanks. The event was convened by M. Naresh Kumar, with support from Dr. D. Anitha and M. Gowri Shankar.
HAVANA-2026 featured a diverse range of competitions, including Robo Race, Robo Soccer, Project Expo, Hackathon, and Codeathon, along with sessions on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, and Robotics. The fest witnessed enthusiastic participation from students representing over 25 colleges in and around Hyderabad.
The event provided a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, skill development, and industry interaction, reinforcing GITAM’s commitment to fostering innovation and technological excellence.
