GITAM Students Gain First-hand Exposure to India’s Advanced Missile Technology at BDL

Students of the Department of Computer Science & Systems Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, Data Science (AIDS), GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad, gained valuable industry exposure during an educational visit to Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Bhanur, one of India’s premier defence manufacturing organizations.

During the visit, students attended an informative session on modern missile technologies and were introduced to anti-tank guided missile systems such as Milan, Konkurs, Invar, and Konkurs-M. They also had the opportunity to learn about the Astra air-to-air missile and its integration with Su-30 and Mirage fighter aircraft.

The delegation toured BDL’s precision manufacturing facility, where they witnessed high-precision CNC machining and the production of critical missile components. A live demonstration of the Konkurs missile launcher system and a visit to the missile assembly section offered students first-hand insight into the final assembly and deployment mechanisms of advanced missile systems.

The visit significantly enhanced students’ understanding of defence engineering, precision manufacturing, automation, and indigenous technological innovation while reinforcing the importance of integrating classroom learning with industrial experience.

The industrial visit, coordinated by Prof. Pritee Ambarish Parwekar from the Department of Computer Science & Systems Engineering, GITAM School of Computer Science and Engineering (GSCSE), provided 30 students and five faculty members with an opportunity to understand India’s indigenous missile manufacturing technologies and advanced defence production systems.

The programme commenced with a welcome by Gangaiha, Head (HR-L&D), followed by an orientation session conducted by Nandini, Training Officer (HR-L&D), and senior BDL officials. Addressing the participants, Nageshwar Rao, Deputy General Manager (Human Resources), highlighted the importance of discipline, teamwork, and technological excellence in strengthening the nation’s defence capabilities.

The Department expressed its gratitude to the management and technical experts of Bharat Dynamics Limited for their warm hospitality and for providing students with an enriching learning experience. Special appreciation was extended to Prof. Pritee Ambarish Parwekar for successfully organizing the industrial visit and creating a valuable platform for experiential learning in India’s defence technology sector.
