Activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike at a private hospital in Gurugram last night in the presence of Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh. Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, and senior leaders of the Apex Body of Leh Ladakh were also present at the hospital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged social activist Sonam Wangchuk to follow the doctors’ advice, resume his daily routine, and regain his previous weight at the earliest. In a social media post, the Prime Minister prayed to the Almighty for Mr Wangchuk’s good health.
Earlier, 65 Members of Parliament from different political parties had visited or signed letters urging him to end his fast. Mr Wangchuk said the decision was taken after prolonged negotiations on various conditions. He urged everyone to remain vigilant and ensure that no violence takes place anywhere.
Mr Wangchuk had begun his hunger strike on the 28th of last month, demanding reforms in the education system and accountability over paper leaks.
