Andhra Pradesh: PCCF (HoFF) Dr. P.V. Chalapathi Rao to Release Black Panther at Indira Gandhi Zoo Park in Visakhapatnam Tomorrow
The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) is delighted to announce some good news. After a long hiatus of 40 years, a female Black Panther will be officially released into her enclosure tomorrow (April 21, 2026).
As part of an animal exchange program, this animal was received from the Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden on March 5, 2026.
This addition not only stands as a significant enhancement to the zoo’s collection but also further strengthens its conservation and educational initiatives.
G. Mangamma, Curator of the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, stated that Dr. P.V. Chalapathi Rao—Head of Forest Force (HoFF) and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Andhra Pradesh—will address the gathering during the official release ceremony of the Black Panther.
