Andhra Pradesh: Palm Groves – A Natural Green Shield for the Coastal Region: Deputy CM Pwan Kalyan

Published on

This initiative stems from the visionary idea of the Honorable Deputy Chief Minister, Sri Pawan Kalyan, who foresaw the need to create a natural green shield along the state’s extensive coastline.

Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan stated that palm groves—serving as the second phase of Andhra Pradesh’s ‘Great Green Wall’ initiative—will help withstand strong coastal winds, mitigate coastal erosion, strengthen biodiversity, and enhance climate resilience.

He explained that under this campaign—which targets the planting of 5.5 million palm seeds across 5,499 hectares—1.3 million seeds have already been collected, and 165,000 of them have been planted with the active participation of government departments, students, and local communities.

The Deputy CM described this not merely as a tree-planting drive, but as a people-led movement aimed at protecting the coastline, strengthening coastal communities, and bequeathing a greener Andhra Pradesh to future generations.
