New registrations for Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra suspended due to adverse weather conditions

In Jammu and Kashmir, in view of the prevailing adverse weather conditions, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) has temporarily suspended fresh registration for the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage as a precautionary measure.

However, the third batch of pilgrims for the Baba Buddha Amarnath Yatra left from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu early this morning for Mandi tehsil of Poonch district. The MeT Department has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places across Jammu and Kashmir today.

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims who have already completed their registration and possess valid RFID cards are being permitted to proceed with the pilgrimage, subject to weather conditions and directions issued by the authorities. Pilgrims are advised to remain vigilant, follow the instructions of the Shrine Board and local administration, and avoid taking unnecessary risks during the adverse weather conditions.

The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and further decisions regarding the resumption of fresh registration will be taken based on the prevailing weather and safety conditions.

However, the third batch of 455 pilgrims of Baba Budha Amarnath Yatra in Rajpura village of Mandi Tehsil of Poonch district departed the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu in a convey of 10 vehicles, including nine buses and one light motor vehicles amid tight security arrangement in the wee hours today. The Yatra will continue until August 28 and will culminate on Raksha Bandhan.

Meanwhile, the weather department has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places across Jammu and Kashmir today. Brief spells of intense rain lashed the plains of Jammu region and higher reaches in the morning today.

Intense rains are likely at a few places, particularly during late afternoon to evening hours. With rainfall already continuing since last night in several areas, people are advised to remain cautious, especially during intense showers. The MeT Department has also warned of isolated heavy spells in some parts of the Kashmir division.
