GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at Gandhi Square on Friday, August 15, 2026. The celebrations brought together students, faculty and staff in a spirited tribute to the nation and its rich legacy of freedom.
The program commenced with the rendition of the National Song, VandeMataram, followed by the hoistingof the National Flag and the singing of the National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana. Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. D.S. Rao hoisted the National Flag and addressed the gathering, highlighting India’s remarkable journey from the challenges faced after independence to its significant progress and growing self-reliance across various sectors.
He emphasized that achieving economic independence remains an important national goal and called upon the younger generation to contribute through innovation, research, and entrepreneurship. He urged students to take forward the baton of nation-building and work towards a stronger and economically self-reliant India.
The celebrations featured a ceremonial parade by NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, and university security personnel, showcasing discipline, dedication and national pride. The cultural program included a classical dance performance by the Kalakriti Students’ Club and the university’s security personnel.
As part of the celebrations, certificates of appreciation were presented to security personnel in recognition of their dedicated service to the university. The program also featured the NCC cadets’ rank ceremony, marking their commitment to discipline, leadership and service to the nation.
Organized by the Student Life team, the celebrations concluded with refreshments. The program left the participants inspired by the values of freedom, unity, patriotism and collective responsibility towards building a stronger India.
