GITAM Hyderabad Celebrates 12thInternational Day of Yoga with Enthusiastic Participation

The Directorate of Sports at GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad, celebrated the 12thInternational Day of Yoga with great enthusiasm at Gandhi Square on Monday, bringing together faculty, staff, and students to promote yoga as a holistic approach to health and well-being.

The celebration was organized in line with this year’s global theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” which emphasizes the role of yoga in promoting physical vitality, mental wellness, emotional balance, and healthy longevity across all age groups.

The programme commenced with an introduction to the significance of yogic practices and their importance in maintaining physical and mental health. This was followed by a guided session featuring Yogasanas, Kapalbhati, Pranayama, Dhyana, and meditation, conducted in accordance with the Common Yoga Protocol prescribed by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.

Participants actively engaged in the session and gained valuable insights into the scientific benefits of yoga. The instructor highlighted how regular yoga practice contributes to an active lifestyle, stress management, disease prevention, and overall well-being.

The event was graced by senior university leadership, including Prof. D. S. Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor; D.V.V.S.R. Varma, Resident Director; and Ambika Philip, Director of Hospitality &Campus Life, Hyderabad, along with several Heads of Departments, who joined the university community in embracing the ancient discipline for a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.

As part of the celebration, T-shirts were distributed to all participants. The programme concluded with a group photograph session and a delightful breakfast, fostering a spirit of unity, wellness, and community among all attendees.
