Assam | BJP leader Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party and the NDA Legislature Party.
Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will take the oath as the Chief Minister of Assam on May 12. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the ceremony as the chief guest.
The Assam BJP Legislature Party met today in Guwahati to elect its legislative party leader. The newly elected BJP MLAs gathered at the ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan’ at 9:00 AM this morning. Meanwhile, preparations are proceeding in full swing for the swearing-in ceremony, through which the NDA government in Assam is set to assume power for the third consecutive term.
During the BJP Legislature Party meeting—held in the presence of BJP Central Observer Jagat Prakash Nadda and Co-observer Nayab Singh Saini—BJP leader Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was unanimously elected as the leader. Following this meeting, the NDA Legislature Party meeting was conducted at the same venue.
Subsequently, the NDA Legislature Party is scheduled to meet Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya to stake its claim to form the government. On the other hand, preparations for the swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for May 12, are being carried out on a war footing at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara.
In view of this event, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration has also issued specific guidelines regarding traffic regulations within the city. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to attend this swearing-in ceremony. Several other Union Ministers and Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states have also been invited to this prestigious event.
