Telangana Forest Development Corporation Ltd., Botanical Garden, Kondapur, Hyderabad – April 22, 2026: To commemorate World Earth Day 2026, the Telangana Forest Development Corporation (TGFDC) organized a grand event at the Botanical Garden, Kondapur, led by Mrs. K. Sireesha, Senior Divisional Manager and Assistant Director, Eco-Tourism.
The celebrations commenced at 10:00 AM with a ceremonial plantation drive where staff and regular morning walkers joined Mrs. Sireesha in planting saplings. During her address, she emphasized that the true essence of Earth Day lies not just in admiring nature’s beauty but in recognizing our collective duty to protect it, urging participants to view environmental stewardship as a daily commitment rather than a once-a-year event.
In a practical demonstration of conservation, Mrs. Sireesha spearheaded a Seed Ball making workshop involving walkers and children, bridging the gap between awareness and action. Participants were taught to craft these “ecological pellets” using a precise mixture of 75% red soil, 25% cow dung or compost and a minimal amount of water.
By embedding seeds of native species such as Maddi (Terminalia arjuna), Neeredu (Jamun), Kanuga (Pongamia) and Chilla (Clearing nut tree) etc., the initiative focused on restoring local biodiversity. To ensure the continuity of this effort, participants were encouraged to take the seed balls they created to plant near their homes, fostering a sense of personal ownership over the local greenery.
Addressing the 2026 global theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” Mrs. Sireesha highlighted that the strength to combat climate change resides within individuals and communities. She noted that environmental progress should not rely solely on government or corporate mandates but must be driven by grassroots movements.
A significant portion of her address focused on the urgent transition to renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, as the primary means to ensure long-term planetary stability. She called for increased civic engagement, urging citizens to take an active role in environmental policymaking and local conservation efforts to secure a sustainable future.
The event concluded with a call for individual responsibility, emphasizing that small, consistent lifestyle changes – such as waste reduction and minimizing carbon footprints are the foundation of global change. Mrs. Sireesha reminded the gathering that “Our Earth is Our Responsibility,” and every action taken today dictates the quality of life for future generations.
The program saw active participation from Plantation Manager V. Laxma Reddy, Forest Range Officer S. Srinivas, Deputy Range Officer K. Srinivasu Reddy, Botanist Dr. I. Veera Kishore, Projects Manager, Eco-Tourism K. Suman, Head Naturalists Akhil and Swetha, Naturalists Samson Raju, Vamshi Praveen, Ranga Reddy, Haji Basha alongside FDC staff and the walkers and children in the garden, all pledging to uphold the spirit of the 2026 Earth Day theme.
