Hyderabad: Guest Lecture on Pharmaceutical Entrepreneurship at GITAM
The GITAM School of Pharmacy, Hyderabad, organized a guest lecture on “From Lab to Launch: Pharmaceutical Entrepreneurship as a Career Path” by Dr. K. Someshwar, CEO & Director, Bell Pharmaceuticals Cosmetics, Hyderabad, and Director & CDO, OrciMed Life Sciences.
In his talk, Dr.Someshwar emphasized the vital role of pharmaceutical entrepreneurship in today’s healthcare landscape. He explained how entrepreneurship bridges science, innovation, and business to transform laboratory research into real-world solutions. Highlighting the essential skills—innovation, leadership, strategy, and scientific knowledge—he encouraged students to view entrepreneurship as a pathway to create scalable impact beyond academia.
He outlined the technical journey “from lab to launch,” covering discovery, preclinical validation, clinical trials, and commercialization. He also discussed the importance of technology transfer offices, incubators, cross-functional teams, and digital tools like AI and cloud-based lab management in accelerating this process.
Dr.Someshwar underscored the key competencies required for a pharma entrepreneur, including scientific acumen, regulatory literacy, business strategy, and leadership resilience. He also addressed the challenges in the sector such as long R&D timelines, regulatory complexities, high capital needs, market competition, and ethical considerations.
Pointing to the support ecosystem, he highlighted incubators like the Atal Incubation Centre, government schemes such as Startup India and BIRAC, as well as academic collaborations with IITs and NIPER, along with venture capital and angel investors.
Sharing his final thoughts, Dr.Someshwar remarked, “You don’t have to choose between science and business. Entrepreneurship is a vehicle for real-world impact—from lab bench to bedside, you can be the catalyst.” Earlier, Prof. G. S. Kumar, Principal, GITAM School of Pharmacy, welcomed and felicitated the guest.

GITAM Organizes Two-Day Outreach Program for ZPHS Beeramguda Students
As part of its initiative to promote education and technological awareness among school students, GITAM School of Technology, Hyderabad is conducting a two-day outreach program for students of ZPHS, Beeramguda on September 10–11, 2025. The program aims to spread knowledge and inspire young minds towards future innovations.
During the sessions, students are being introduced to foundational concepts in Artificial Intelligence (AI), IT Tools, Robotics, Electronics, and the Internet of Things (IoT). The program is being conducted under the overall supervision of Prof. V.R. Sastry, Director, School of Technology & Dean-Core Engineering, along with various department heads and faculty members who are mentoring the students with hands-on insights into emerging technologies.
This initiative was taken forward at the request of PullabhotlaVasantha, Head Master, ZPHS Beeramguda, for the benefit of school children, providing them an opportunity to gain updated knowledge and inspiration for their academic journey ahead. The two-day event coordinated by Dr. V. Naveen Kumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
