Hyderabad: GITAM Hosts Seminaron “Materials to Medicine II: Role of Chemistry and Biology”
The GITAM School of Science, Hyderabad, organized a one-day seminar on “Materials to Medicine II: Role of Chemistry & Biology”, bringing together eminent scientists and academicians to explore the transformative role of chemistry and biology in advancing medicine and addressing societal challenges.
Prof. Rene Gree, Professor and CNRS Research Director Emeritus, University of Rennes, France, graced the event as Chief Guest and delivered the inaugural address on “The Key Role of Discovery in Research.” He highlighted research initiatives in France through CNRS and INSERM, emphasizing the importance of serendipity and curiosity in scientific discovery. Prof.Gree also shared insights into the discovery of DB18, a novel and highly selective inhibitor of CLK kinases, underlining its potential in biomedical research and human health applications.
Dr.Srivari Chandrasekhar, Former Director, IICT and Distinguished Professor at GITAM, delivered the welcome note. Dr.Prathamma, Pie Labs, encouraged young participants to actively interact with researchers and consider science as a career path.
Other distinguished speakers included, Dr.LabanyamoyKole, CSO, Drug Discovery Biology, AIC-CCMB, Hyderabad, who spoke on “New Food Development and Monitoring of Contaminants and Xenobiotic Detoxification” and Prof. A. K. Sahoo, University of Hyderabad, who emphasized the “Impact of Stereochemistry and Development of Synthetic Methods for a Sustainable Society.”Prof. S. Anantha Ramakrishna, Dean, GITAM School of Science, also shared his perspectives through an online session. Resource persons visited GITAM’s state-of-the-art MURTI Labs and interacted with faculty members.
Dr. M. Reza, Principal, School of Science, along with Dr.Gousia Begum, HoD of Chemistry, and Dr.Niharika, HoD of FST, shared their views on the importance of research facilities. Convenor Prof.RambabuGundla, along with Co-convenors Dr.Purna and Dr.Shivakumar, expressed gratitude to the University and participants.
The seminar concluded with a valedictory session, where certificates of appreciation were distributed. The seminar benefited nearly 150 students and 20 research scholars, offering them valuable insights into cutting-edge scientific advancements.
Suicide Prevention and Awareness Program held at GITAM

The Department of Psychology, GITAM School of Humanities and Social Sciences (GSHS), Hyderabad, organized a Suicide Prevention and Awareness Program to mark World Mental Health Day on 10 September 2025.
The program featured musical performances followed by a Suicide Prevention Walk, reflecting solidarity and collective responsibility towards mental health. A vetting board was inaugurated along with poster and slogan-making competitions on the theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide.”
As part of the program, Dr.Kunmun delivered an insightful invited talk on “Suicide Prevention.”
The department is also observing Suicide Prevention Week from September 10–15, 2025, with a series of awareness initiatives and events aimed at fostering a culture of empathy, support, and resilience.
