C P Radhakrishnan To Be The 15th Vice President Of India: President, PM Congratulates

NDA candidate and Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan will be the new Vice-President of India. He defeated I.N.D.I.A. bloc candidate and former Supreme Court Judge B Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes.

Briefing reporters after the counting of Votes for the Vice Presidential election, Rajya Sabha Secretary General and returning officer, P C Mody said, out of the total 781 electors, 767 MPs voted in the election. Mr Mody informed that out of 767 votes, 752 were found valid and 15 were declared invalid.

Rajya Sabha Secretary General informed that the election for the post of Vice President was held in a free, fair and orderly manner. The election took place after the resignation of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, citing health reasons.

The voting for the Vice Presidential election was held between 10 AM and 5 PM. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was the first among the members who cast his vote. Besides, several Union Ministers including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, J.P. Nadda, Nitin Gadkari, Ashwini Vaishnaw and Shivraj Singh Chouhan also voted.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla,  Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, JD (U) leader Sanjay Jha, JDS MP H.D. Deve Gowda, Shiv Sena’s MP Shrikant Shinde, NCP’s Praful Patel and Hindustani Awam Morcha’s Jitan Ram Manjhi also cast their votes.

From the opposition camp, Congress MPs Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, NCP (SCP) leader Sharad Pawar, Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav and DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran also voted.

Born in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan, began his political journey as a student leader. He was actively involved in organisations such as the RSS and Jan Sangh. Since then he has used politics as a medium to serve the public.

He was elected twice to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore. Mr. Radhakrishnan has also served as Governor of Jharkhand, Telangana, Puducherry and Maharashtra. An agriculturist and industrialist by profession, he is admired for his integrity, vision, and unblemished public life.

President, PM, HM Congratulate C. P. Radhakrishnan On Winning VP Election

President Droupadi Murmu has congratulated C. P. Radhakrishnan on being elected as the Vice President of India. In a social media post, the President said that Mr. Radhakrishnan’s decades of rich experience in public life will contribute significantly to the nation’s progress. President Murmu has also extended her wishes to the newly elected Vice President for a successful and impactful tenure.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also extended his greetings to CP Radhakrishnan on winning the 2025 Vice Presidential election. In a social media post, Mr. Modi said that his life has always been devoted to serving society and empowering the poor and marginalised.

The Prime Minister said that he is confident that he will be an outstanding Vice President, who will strengthen the country’s Constitutional values and enhance Parliamentary discourse.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated NDA’s Vice-Presidential candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan for being elected as the Vice President. In a social media post, Mr Shah extended his wishes to C P Radhakrishnan for his journey as the custodian of the sanctity of the Upper House.

Extending congratulations to C.P. Radhakrishnan on being elected as the Vice President, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that throughout his distinguished public life, he has embodied humility, integrity and a deep commitment to service. In a social media post,

Mr. Singh said that his vast experience, profound knowledge of constitutional and legislative affairs and unwavering connection with the people will further enrich his new role.

He also expressed confidence that under the leadership of C.P. Radhakrishnan, the Rajya Sabha will scale new heights and our parliamentary traditions will be further strengthened.
