Hyderabad: Awareness Session on ‘Emerging Trends in Healthcare and Life Sciences Industries’ held at GITAM
The Career Guidance Centre (CGC) of GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad, in collaboration with the School of Pharmacy (SoP), organized an insightful awareness session on ‘Emerging Trends in Healthcare and Life Sciences Industries’ on September 27, 2024. The session featured Dr. Subas Chandra Mohapatra, Director at Novartis, as the chief guest, who shared his expertise and insights on the latest advancements in the healthcare and life sciences sectors.
In his address, Dr. Mohapatra highlighted several emerging fields, including Medical Devices, Biologics, Nuclear Medicine, Cell and Gene Therapy, and Personalized Medicine. He provided an in-depth overview of each area, explaining the crucial roles these fields will play in the future of healthcare. He emphasized that Medical Devices is a rapidly growing sector, Biologics will be pivotal in the industry, Nuclear Medicine is breaking new ground, and Cell and Gene Therapy are revolutionizing treatment approaches. Furthermore, he stressed that Personalized Medicine, which tailors treatment to individual patients’ unique needs, is gaining importance and will shape the future of healthcare.
Dr. Mohapatra also discussed Digital Health and the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in recent advancements within the pharmaceutical industry. He encouraged students to explore different areas of the RDC Continuum (Research, Development, and Commercialization) and choose a focus based on their interests. He advised budding pharmacists to acquire knowledge in Information Technology, emphasizing the importance of its integration in the pharma industry.
Encouraging students to think outside the box, Dr. Mohapatra urged them to move beyond their comfort zones to realize their full potential. He emphasized the importance of mentoring, coaching, and support systems in achieving success, stating that “nobody knows everything in this world” and that having a mentor is crucial to avoiding mediocrity. He expressed concern over India’s tendency to produce “mediocrates” rather than experts and advised students to focus on becoming specialized in their fields.
During the interactive session, Dr. Mohapatra answered questions posed by the students, further inspiring them to explore the diverse career opportunities in healthcare and life sciences.
Earlier, Dr. Bappaditya Chatterjee, Associate Professor at the School of Pharmacy, welcomed the guest, while Dr. Ramakanta Bal, Dy. Director at Career Guidance Center, proposed the vote of thanks.
