New Delhi: In a significant milestone, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully conducted its maiden night landing of the ICG Dornier aircraft at Agatti Airport in the Lakshadweep Islands on 02 Aug 24. Located approximately 460 kilometers west of Kochi in the Arabian Sea, Agatti features the only airstrip in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.

This successful operation marks a remarkable enhancement in the Indian Coast Guard’s operational capabilities. The ability to conduct night landings will provide critical support to the local populace during natural disasters, medical evacuations, and other emergencies, even during the darkest hours.

The night landing was achieved through excellent coordination between Coast Guard District Headquarters, Lakshadweep, the Airport Authority of India, Agatti, and Coast Guard Air Enclave, Kochi. This achievement ensures the round-the-clock presence of the ICG in the Lakshadweep archipelago, thereby strengthening the region’s overall safety and security.

The successful night landing at Agatti Airport underscores the Indian Coast Guard’s commitment to operational excellence and its readiness to address challenges in the most demanding conditions. This capability significantly contributes to national security and regional stability.
