West Bengal: At Least 15 Killed In Hotel Fire In Kolkata’s Machhua Area: President,PM Express Grief
In West Bengal, at least 15 people were killed in a fire that broke out in a hotel in the fruit market in Machhua area in central Kolkata last night. Police said several people have been rescued.
The fire incident took place at around 8:15 last night. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma said a special team has been formed to investigate the incident.
Earlier, Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar had urged the State administration to rescue the affected immediately, and called for strict monitoring of fire safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
President Droupadi Murmu has expressed sadness at the loss of lives in the fire accident in a building in Kolkata. In her message, President Murmu expressed condolences to members of the bereaved family and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences over the loss of lives in a fire mishap in Kolkata. The PMO India handle in a social media post said that Mr Modi announced an ex-gratia of 2 lakh rupees from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the next of kin of each deceased and 50 thousand rupees to the injured. The Prime Minister also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
