Char Dham Yatra 2025 Begins: Portals Of Gangotri, Yamunotri Shrines Open for devotees today
The gates of Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district were opened for devotees today with traditional Vedic chanting on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya.
With this, the Char Dham Yatra officially began in the state. The gates of Gangotri Dham were opened at 10:30 am and Yamunotri Dham at 11:55 am with religious rituals. Devotees in large numbers turned up at both the shrines to witness the occasion. Pilgrims will now be able to visit these shrines for the next six months.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited Gangotri Dham and offered prayers. He said that elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth and safe journey for devotees coming for the Char Dham Yatra.
With the opening of the gates of Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham, the Char Dham Yatra has begun in Uttarakhand. According to the Uttarkashi district administration, the convenience of pilgrims visiting these shrines has been given top priority. Infrastructure like toilets, parking areas and traffic management systems have been strengthened along the route.
This year, smart toilet complexes have been developed at eight locations, along with parking facilities at several locations. In view of the increasing number of passengers and increasing vehicular pressure, efforts have been made to make the main routes smooth and safe. Basic amenities like electricity, water and sanitation facilities have also been provided along the pilgrimage routes.
