Hyderabad: GITAM Hosts Hands-On Workshop on Molecular Docking & Virtual Screening
The GITAM School of Pharmacy, Hyderabad, successfully organized a one-day hands-on workshop on “Molecular Docking & Virtual Screening,” aimed at equipping participants with practical skills in computational drug discovery. The session, held on April 11, 2025, focused on the use of MolSoft — a leading molecular modeling software — to simulate and streamline drug discovery processes.
The workshop was conducted by two esteemed experts from the industry, Aditya Mishra, Junior Application Scientist, and Dr. Shamshair Singh Sardar, Senior Application Scientist at Advent Informatics, Pune. They provided in-depth training on the functionalities of MolSoft’s ICM tools, showcasing their cost-effectiveness, ease of use, and potential to minimize manpower in drug development workflows. Key features such as the ICM-Pro interface and live demonstrations further enhanced the participants’ learning experience.
Designed for faculty members, research scholars, and professionals involved in computational drug discovery, the workshop covered crucial topics including, Fundamentals of Molecular Docking and Virtual Screening; Optimization and Validation of Docking Models; and Real-World Case Studies in Drug Development.
To maintain an interactive and focused learning environment, the workshop was limited to 30 participants. Around 25 attendees actively engaged in the session, gaining hands-on experience under the expert guidance of the resource persons.
The event began with a warm welcome from Prof. G. Shiva Kumar, Principal of the School of Pharmacy, who also felicitated the guest speakers. In his address, he emphasized the importance of integrating advanced computational tools in research and encouraged participants to leverage such platforms to enhance the quality and efficiency of their work.
The workshop was meticulously coordinated by Dr. Elagandhula Satish and Dr. Vinyas Mayasa, who ensured the smooth execution of the program. At the conclusion of the event, certificates of participation were awarded to those who successfully completed the hands-on training.
This initiative reflects GITAM’s continued commitment to fostering innovation and practical learning in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.
