Education:

Zoos offer opportunities for the public to learn about a wide variety of animals and their habitats, fostering a connection with wildlife and promoting biodiversity awareness.

Research:

Zoos are valuable locations for research, providing a unique environment for studying animal behaviour, welfare, and reproduction, contributing to the advancement of veterinary and animal science.

Entertainment:

Zoos offer a fun and engaging experience for families and individuals, allowing them to see and learn about animals from around the world.

Supporting Zoos:

National Zoo Lovers Day is a great opportunity to show support for zoos by visiting, volunteering, donating, or organizing fundraising events.

History:

Zoos have a long history, with the oldest public zoo opening in 1752, and have brought exotic animals from far-flung regions into the heart of civilization.

Further, Sri Ajay Kumar Naik, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (HoFF), Andhra Pradesh, visited all the enclosures, interacted with the animal keepers and enquired about the well-being of the animals.

He advised Smt. G. Mangamma, Curator of the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, to send Elephant Krishna for Kumki training, so that it can be used in Human wildlife conflict to lead the Elephant groups away from the villages. Additionally, he has very much appreciated the zoo’s maintenance, particularly the Love Birds Aviary, Wild Dog Breeding Centre and Himalayan Black Bear enclosure.

The event highlighted the importance of zoos in wildlife conservation, Zoo conservation education and fostering public engagement with nature.
