“Singareni Neeti Binduvu-Jala Sindhu” special program launched: 50 mini ponds to be established: CMD N. Balaram orders
Singareni Company, which has gained a good name across the country by following environmentally friendly mining and planting crores of saplings, has recently instructed its officials to undertake a special environmental and public benefit program under the slogan “Singareni Neeti Binduvu – Jala Sindhu” for the development of groundwater in the Singareni area.
Recognizing the vital value of water for all living things and crops, Singareni has decided to establish 50 mini ponds within the mining area and within a two-kilometer radius outside the area, and to undertake siltation work in the existing ponds. To this end, CMD Shri N. Balaram held a special review with the Area GMs and officials in a video review meeting held on Monday. In this meeting, some guidelines for the growth of aquatic life were finalized.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Shri N. Balaram said that in order to increase the groundwater in the Singareni area and to provide clean drinking water to the people of the nearby villages even during the dry season, steps should be taken to increase water resources under the slogan of ‘Water Droplet-Jalsindhu’ as part of the measures to make good use of every drop of water.
It was stated that the steps to be taken by Singareni will significantly increase the groundwater in the Singareni area and will also be useful for drinking water and irrigation needs. In this meeting, some preliminary decisions were taken after discussing the steps to be taken to increase groundwater.
It was decided to increase the water content in the empty sumps already formed due to coal mining in the Singareni open cast mines, thereby increasing the water table in the nearby areas.
It is planned to develop the low-lying areas between the overburden dumps of open cast mines into small water tanks, which will be filled with rainwater or water discharged from the open cast. It has been decided that some civil construction works will also be carried out departmentally to ensure that water enters the water source centers established in this way and that the accumulated water is discharged and utilized properly.
It has also been decided to develop the generation-old ponds and ponds within a radius of 2 kilometers outside the Singareni mine areas, and to take up works such as dredging to store more water in them. It has also been decided to obtain the consent of the local gram panchayats and local bodies for this and to ensure that the locals participate in these works.
Due to the above measures, the water table in the Singareni area will increase and water resources will increase, and it is planned to take precautions to use this water for drinking water and irrigation. It is believed that these tanks will not only be useful for increasing water resources but also for conserving the ecosystem of the area, and aquatic animals like fish and frogs can also be grown in them.
It has also been decided to take steps to improve the quality of the water in these water resource centers to be established in Singareni by scientifically testing them from time to time. As per the instructions of the Environment Department of the Central Government, the Singareni organization will prepare plans to implement this huge environmentally friendly scheme.
