Visakhapatnam Zoo Park delighted to announce birth of 14 wild dog (Dhole) puppies and one Indian Gaur calf
Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Visakhapatnam is delighted to announce the birth of 14 wild dog (Dhole) puppies and one Indian Gaur calf marking a significant moment in the Zoo’s conservation efforts. The wild dog puppies born to healthy pairs of dholes are thriving under the care of their mothers.
Dholes (Cuon alpinus) & Indian Gaur (Bos gaurus) are an endangered species by IUCN & Schedule I Species under Wild life protection Act 1972 and their successful breeding at the Zoo is a major step towards their conservation. The Zoo authorities are ensuring proper nutrition and a secure environment along with timely immunization to support their growth.
Additionally, a healthy Indian Gaur calf has been born adding to the population of this majestic species. The calf is active and closely monitored by the Zoo’s veterinary team to ensure its well-being. Indian Gaurs (Bos gaurus) are the largest wild cattle species and play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance.
“We are overjoyed with the arrival of these precious puppies and calf. This achievement is a result of our dedicated team’s hard work and expertise in animal care and breeding programs” said by G. Mangamma, Curator, Indira Gandhi Zoological Park.
“The Zoo continues to focus on conservation breeding programs and wildlife protection, providing a safe and naturalistic habitat for its animals welfare. Visitors can soon catch a glimpse of these adorable new members as they grow under careful supervision.
