On the occasion of International Day of Forests, Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) conducted an awareness session titled ‘Forest in Your Backyard’, aligning with this year’s theme ‘Forests and Food’. The session highlighted the crucial role of forests in ensuring food security and biodiversity conservation.
Addressing the gathering, Smt. G. Mangamma, Curator, IGZP emphasized the importance of forests and their contribution to the global food supply and ecological balance. Smt. Aishwarya Machavarapu, Founder of Terrace Garden, shared insights on home gardening and sustainable food production. Children enthusiastically participated, learning how to grow fruits and vegetables in their own spaces.
As part of the initiative, fruit-bearing plants and vegetable saplings were distributed to all students, encouraging hands-on learning. This initiative aimed to inspire young minds to cultivate their own green spaces while reinforcing the connection between forests, food and sustainability.
