Chhattisgarh: Correct BSF calculation; Death toll of Maoists killed in Bijapur and Kanker encounters rises to 30

“In a major crackdown against the maoist menace in Kanker, Chattisgarh, a joint operation by BSF & DRG was launched based on specific BSF intelligence. The operation yielded huge success as the troops eliminated 29 CPI Maoist cadres including top commander Shankar Rao. A large cache of weapons & ammunition were also recovered.

The successful operation will help in breaking backbone of maoist activity and immensely augment the efforts to bring normalcy & development in the region.”

In Chhattisgarh, a total of thirty Maoists have been killed in two separate encounters today. The bodies of these Maoists have been recovered. A large quantity of weapons and ammunition have also been recovered from the spot. A security force jawan has also been martyred in the encounter with the Maoists.

The first encounter took place in the Bijapur district. The security forces had received intelligence inputs that a large number of Maoists were present in the forest located in the border area of the Bijapur and Dantewada districts. After this, teams of security forces from various districts were sent to this area.

An encounter between security forces and Maoists started at around seven o’clock this morning in Gangalur area of the district. Intermittent firing continued from both sides.

After the encounter, security forces recovered the bodies of twenty-six Maoists from the spot. Apart from this, a large quantity of weapons and ammunition has also been recovered. A jawan of District Reserve Guard-DRG was martyred in this encounter.

Another encounter took place in the border area of Kanker and Narayanpur districts. Four Maoists were killed in this encounter. Automatic weapons of the Maoists were also recovered from the spot.

Jawans of Central Reserve Police Force-CRPF, Special Task Force-STF and District Reserve Guard-DRG were involved in these encounters.
