Hyderabad: Huge Scope for Aerospace Engineering Careers

0 182

There is a vast scope for aerospace engineering students to secure rewarding careers in the core domain, provided they acquire the industry-relevant skills, said Dhanish Abdul Khader, Space Systems Engineer at SS Technologies, ANSVS, Bangalore. He delivered an expert talk on “Design Innovation for a Successful Career in Aeronautics, Space, and Defence” at GITAM School of Technology, Hyderabad. The event was organized by the Department of Aerospace Engineering.

Addressing the students and faculty, Dhanish highlighted that the Indian government’s recent push for indigenous production—following the ban on Chinese products and apps—has created significant opportunities in the aerospace and defense sectors. He explained that the government is actively encouraging reputed global companies to establish manufacturing units in India, either independently or through joint ventures with Indian firms.

Dhanish noted that the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) and its associated organizations are being supported to innovate and manufacture defense products domestically. He informed that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved a budget of nearly ₹499 crore for research and innovation in the defense sector over the next five years. Additionally, the government has signed multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with other nations to facilitate the production of defense products in India through technology sharing.

He further mentioned that defense corridors and aerospace parks have been established across the country to support this initiative. Several state governments have signed MoUs with leading aerospace and defense companies such as Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, and Safran.

Dhanish referenced key developments, including, the proposed Airbus-Tata Aircraft manufacturing facility in Gujarat, the Dhirubhai Ambani Aerospace Park securing India’s largest FDI in defense, Boeing components being manufactured in Hyderabad, French aerospace giant Safran setting up India’s largest aircraft engine MRO facility at GMR Aerospace Park, and Telangana emerging as a major hub for aerospace and defense manufacturing.

“These developments highlight the growing demand for skilled professionals in the aerospace and defense sectors,” Dhanish remarked.

Earlier, Dr. Md. Akhtar Khan, Head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Convener of the program, welcomed and introduced the guest speaker. The event was attended by faculty members and students, who actively participated in the engaging session.
