NABARD projects Credit Potential for Telangana at ₹3.86 lakh Cr
Shri Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Finance, Planning & Energy, Government of Telangana, has released the State Focus Paper 2025-26 prepared by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in the State Credit Seminar organized on 14 February 2025 at Hyderabad. The paper projected a potential for credit of ₹3.86 lakh Crore in Telangana for the financial year 2025-26.
Shri Tummala Nageswara Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Co-operation, Marketing and Handlooms & Textiles, Government of Telangana, was the Guest of Honour in the Seminar.
In his address as the Chief Guest, the Deputy Chief Minister said that Telangana is one of the fastest growing States with ₹15.2 lakh Crore GSDP, with a growth rate of 14.5%. He further said that Telangana has an annual per capita income of ₹3.56 lakh.
He exhorted all the Bankers to strive towards turning the numbers projected into reality for the benefit of our rural communities. He advocated water-efficient farming in the State. He called for scientific agriculture with subsidies and said the State Government will work towards it. He said that productivity with less water usage should be achieved through drip irrigation.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Tummala Nageswara Rao said that the State Government is giving top priority to develop the Agriculture and allied sectors. He said that loans availed by farmers have been paid to the Banks by the State Government. The Government is encouraging oil palm cultivation in all the Districts with 20 lakh acres of land eligible for oil palm cultivation.
He said that the Government is supporting farmers with free power and irrigation. He requested the Banks to support farmers by providing loans so that not only the farmers but their families also get uplifted. He advocated oil seed production, diversified horticulture production, fruit and vegetable production, storage and export, etc.
Shri B Uday Bhaskar, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Telangana Regional Office, in his Welcome Address said that Telangana is the youngest State of the country and is the fastest growing State with per capita income 1.6 times more than the national average of ₹2.12 lakh. He further said that Telangana has made remarkable strides to become the nation’s leader in rice production, contributing 12% to India’s total rice output.
The state ranks 3rd in poultry production, accounting for 9.39% of the country’s total and 4th in meat production, contributing 10.85% to the national output. The state also boasts the highest per-capita meat availability at 29.21 kg. Additionally, Telangana is the top producer of sheep, contributing 25.67% to India’s total sheep population. He assured that NABARD will continue to work in close coordination and cooperation with the State Government for achieving the common goal of Agriculture and Rural Development in the State.
NABARD, as the Development Bank of the Nation, prepares annual Potential Linked Credit Plans (PLPs) at district and state levels to align credit flow with sectoral potential. These plans, consolidated into the State Focus Paper, guide bankers in formulating the Annual Credit Plan by identifying sector-wise potential, infrastructure needs, and policy issues.
The credit potential estimated under Priority Sector for Telangana for the year 2025-26 is ₹3.86 lakh crore, reflecting a growth of 37.80% over the previous year.
Total credit potential estimated for agriculture is ₹1.63 lakh crore comprising of crop loan of ₹0.87 lakh crore, working capital for agri-allied activities of ₹0.07 lakh crore and agriculture and allied term credit of ₹0.69 lakh crore.
The assessment of credit potential for MSME and other priority sectors is ₹2.03 lakh crore and ₹0.19 lakh crore respectively.
A booklet on successful interventions of NABARD in Telangana in aspirational districts was also released at the hands of the Chief Guest.

The Seminar was also attended by the Controlling Heads of Banks, Chairman of RRB, CEOs of Cooperative Banks, officials from various State Government Departments.
The Seminar concluded with Vote of Thanks by Shri R.Ganapathy, General Manager, NABARD, Telangana Regional Office.
