The GITAM School of Technology proudly hosted an expert talk by Prof. Kausik Sarkar, Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The George Washington University, USA, today. The engaging session, titled “A Tale of Two Topics: Bubbles for Imaging, Therapeutics, and Tissue Engineering, and A Pair of Drops in a Viscoelastic Medium,” was organized by the Department of Aerospace Engineering and attracted a keen audience of students and faculty members.

Dr. Md. Akhtar Khan, Head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, opened the event by welcoming Prof. Sarkar and emphasizing the significance of his research in the emerging fields of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. “Bubble imaging plays an important role in aerospace propulsion systems,” Dr. Khan noted, urging attendees to take full advantage of the insights shared during the talk.

Prof. Sarkar commenced his presentation by providing an overview of microbubbles and their applications in ultrasound-assisted bone and cartilage tissue engineering, particularly within the context of 3D-printed scaffolds. He highlighted the potential of these technologies to revolutionize therapeutics and improve patient outcomes.

Transitioning to his research interest, Prof. Sarkar delved into computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of viscous and viscoelastic emulsions, discussing their rheology and the phenomenon of shear-induced diffusion. His insights into how engineering can be leveraged to design bubbles for specific clinical purposes underscored the interdisciplinary nature of his work.

The talk not only illuminated cutting-edge research but also sparked rich discussions among attendees about the future of engineering applications in healthcare and aerospace.

The GITAM School of Technology remains committed to fostering academic excellence and innovation through guest lectures and collaborations with leading experts in the field.
